ASV Honors a true American Hero

Honoring a true American Hero

On Wednesday June 8, 2016 retired Marine Master Sergeant, Rodney Buentello was spending time with his family at Bandera City Park near San Antonio, TX when he jumped into action without hesitation after observing two teenagers who had fallen into the river and were struggling.  Buentello saved both of the teenagers before being taken by the undercurrent and drowned.

Buentello was a 2-time Purple Heart Award recipient for his actions in the Marines, educator, mentor, family man and overall man of honor coming from a family with a proud tradition of serving in the US Marines.

This selfless act of heroism is what we honor since it epitomizes what it is to be a Marine, someone who is prepared to pay the ultimate sacrifice for his fellow man.  Buentello, his spirit and selflessness will not be forgotten because a group of fellow Veterans have started the MSgt Rodney Buentello Scholarship fund which will honor Buentello by hosting Salute 2 Heroes softball tournaments since Buentello himself was an avid softball player and sports fan.  We thought it is best to honor him by celebrating through doing something positive, healthy and that reflects his spirit of community and teamwork.
